Concert Hall (Saturday, 6:30 - 8:30pm)

Every week ArtSound FM volunteers get out into the Canberra community to record live classical music performances by local and international artists. Every year Concert Hall broadcast around 50 of these concerts and also keeps you in touch with events coming up around town.

Concert Hall sources its live concerts from such venues as the ANU School of Music, the Wesley Music Centre, the National Gallery, the National Library and University House. The program covers all genres and styles of classical music including solo instruments, voices, ensembles, orchestras and choirs.

Also enjoy the best from the Canberra International Music Festival, Kathryn Selby’s group Trioz and ArtSong Canberra on Concert Hall.

Coming up on Concert Hall:

Our focus for the next few weeks is on some of our brightest local stars including soprano Louise Page and pianists Phillipa Candy and Marcella Fiorillo. Tune in to hear how good they really are!

And on September 13th, it’s the wonderful Canberra Handel Choir singing their hearts out. For this performance recorded recently at the Hughes Baptist Church, they are joined by a small ensemble of keyboard, strings, trumpets and timpani. Alas, this may well be their final concert since their Director Adam Laslett is off very soon to work with an opera company in Glasgow.

Concert Hall dates:

September 6 - Mother and Child - a song recital at the Wesley Music Centre by Canberra's favourite soprano Louise Page and pianist Phillipa Candy. Includes Mahler's Kindertotenleider

September 13 - The Canberra Handel Choir presents Light and Dark - selections from the pastoral odes/oratorios Saul, Jepththa, Solomon and L'Allegro, il Pensero ed il Moderato

September 20 - Pianist Marcella Fiorillo plays Chopin at the Wesley Music Centre

September 27 - Another concert from this year's Canberra International Music Festival. String quartets by Mozart, Beethoven and Debussy from the Australian String Quartet
